Software

IPVanish is in the “commercial” category of VPNs, so it’s easy to use.

The interface is easy to get around, overall. There’s a top bar that shows what server you’re currently to, an IP address and an on the button. No matter where you are in the client, you can disconnect or reconnect.

We wanted more options, particularly for IP cycling which IPVanish has oddly omitted. For a straightforward VPN experience, though, it gets the job done well.

Customer Support

IPVanish offers live chat and phone support, as well as a knowledge base and setup guide. We’re impressed with the layout and response times IPVanish offers, but it doesn’t come as surprise given the rest of the service.

Privacy & Security

For the most part, IPVanish’s privacy policy paints a positive picture of a privacy-conscious service. It plainly states: “IPVanish does not collect or log any traffic or use of its Virtual Private Network service,” and that “we do not sell or rent personal information to others.” That’s exactly what I like to hear, and I confirmed with company representatives that it does not collect any data while users are connected to its service.

Conclusion

IPVanish is fast, with a highly configurable app and excellent live chat support to help keep everything running smoothly. But there are some problems, too, and issues with usability and the uncertain locations of a small number of servers are just enough to keep it off the top spot.
